Gatten and Lake are supporting the Island-wide Active Travel project, which is being delivered by the ‘Shift-it’ Team. On Thursday morning the children met Nicky from the Shift-it team, who delivered an assembly, encouraging children to find new, clean, ways of travelling to and from school, and to continue to use the sustainable ways they may already be using.
More healthy ways of travelling to and from school instead of using the car ‘right to the door’ include;
- If a car is necessary, try and park away from the school and walk the remaining distance. Park and stride.
- Use of bikes
- Use of scooters
The primary aim is to cut pollution and congestion and to improve everyone’s health and safety.
Our pupils, who make up the Active Travel team, will monitor, advise and promote this valuable scheme.
